Monthly Recap - September 2024

The Shokuryoshi Experiment

I'm not really sure what happened, but I didn't get out on the water very much in September. With that said, this is a pretty short recap.

Week 1

The first week started off with yet another little heatwave. Though not as hot as previous ones this summer, it still made for warm waters which influenced a decision to stay away from the creeks and rivers until we got some cooler evenings to balance out the hot days.

Week 2

With a new work schedule, and plenty going on, I didn't have time to get out and fish the second week of the month. Though, I did host the first official event for Heritage Tenkara Project - a local tenkara anglers meet-up. So, with that, I did get to talk about fishing with some great people from the area!

Cooler days have started to creep in, so hopefully I will be able to get some fishing in this coming week!

Week 3

September Rainbow

Unfortunately I was not able to get out during the week, but did have a little time on my favorite river over the weekend. It was a slow start to fishing that day, and it took a while to really figure things out. Once I gained some understanding of what was going to work, I feel I made up for the trouble I had at the beginning. If you're interested in knowing more about this outing, you can read the journal entry post, which I'll link below...

Week 4

Team Meating

The last day of September was a big fishing day! Amanda, aka "Lady Tenkara Bum" paid a visit while she was in California and we discussed ideas and plans for Heritage Tenkara Project, as well as fished! We spent all day out on one of my favorite rivers and put plenty of fish in the nets. Even though it was off to a slow start, the weather and the bite really heated up in the afternoon, and ended with a hatch of October caddis right at sundown.

A Big Catch

Stats Update

The Stats

Even though I was only able to get out for two recorded sessions (I didn't record the time spent fishing with Amanda), the numbers are looking good! We will see if I'm able to break past 4 fish per hour in October, and if I'll hit my goal of doubling my catch rate from last year!
