The Shokuryoshi Experiment
Toward the end of 2022 I had become increasingly more interested in the origins of tenkara, and of the anglers of historical Japan - The Shokuryoshi. The stories of these anglers, and their culture intrigued me.
I wondered what a modern day recreational angler could stand to learn from adopting the mindset of someone who had to put fish in the net to make ends meet.
Over the last year, I have been putting a bunch of ideas to the test, weeding out old habits that wasted time, and building new ones that I found helped me to increase my catch rate.
These are the articles and posts that detail some of my experiences, practices, and findings. From posts about gear, technique, and journal entries, I have enough to cover my fishing in 2023.
I hope you follow along!
