A Look Back: Oregon Trip Report (2022)

Around this time last year, we set out on an adventure through Oregon. We had planned a family trip, and the end of that trip was only a few days off from the Tenkara Bug Out, so we figured why not stay a few extra days and get some fishing in as well?

The first half of the trip started out with a few days on the coast. After that we were going to be staying in southern Oregon for a bit. Our route would take us right through the redwoods, so we decided to make a stop and enjoy some time among the giants.

A few walks on some short trails gave us the opportunity to fish a little bit. I was able to catch one little trout out of a small pool in one of those creeks.

After lunch we stopped at one more spot outside of the redwoods before moving on. The river was fast and I had no luck there, but the creek that fed into the river had some little trout that were just a little too fast for me to set the hook on.

The next fishing session came after some exploration. We stopped at a spot along the river and cast around a bit. Again, the flows were fast, but I was able to pull a rainbow from under a shelf on the outside of a bend in the river.

The fishing really came to a head at the Tenkara Bug Out. It was a fun event with some fun people, and miles of river to explore. The first day started with a few snags, and ended with a few properly hooked fish in the net. The wife also had a run in with a large trout that unfortunately got off the hook.

The second day of the bugout brought in a new species for the list, a redband trout. The little stretch of water we hit in the morning before making our long drive home held plenty of smaller fish, and offered a nice way to wrap up our extended road trip.
